On Tuesday morning, news broke that Georgia wide receiver Colbie Young had been arrested on charges of assaulting an unborn child and battery, according to the Athens Clarke-County jail log. Young was booked at 4:18 A.M. His bond is set at $2,500.
Colbie Young, a wide receiver for the Georgia Bulldogs, was arrested on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, on charges of battery and assault on an unborn child. The incident allegedly occurred when Young’s ex-girlfriend visited his apartment to discuss their relationship, which turned heated after she discovered him on the phone with another woman.
According to the police report, Young grabbed the woman’s arm, pulled her out of the room, and later picked her up, squeezing her torso and abdomen. The woman reported visible bruises and redness on her chest and side. Young denied any physical contact, claiming he only escorted her to the door.
Young’s attorney, Kim Stephens, stated that Young didn’t make any physical contact that could be considered a crime and expects him to be fully exonerated once the investigation is complete. Georgia’s head coach, Kirby Smart, addressed the situation, saying it’s a pending legal matter, and he cannot comment further.
Young’s arrest has sparked concerns about leadership issues within the team, with seven arrests since March. Coach Smart acknowledged the challenges and emphasized the importance of players making better decisions off the field.
